The LEGO Batman Movie and Nightwing movie director Chris McKay is in talks to become the director of the upcoming Dungeons & Dragons film. The film produced under the production banner of Paramount Pictures is one of the most awaited projects and was scheduled to start off the new AllSpark Pictures. Sweetpea Entertainment’s Courtney Solomon and Allan Zeman and Roy Lee and Hasbro’s Brian Goldner and Stephen Davis will produce the movie whereas Michael Gillio will write the script of the same. David Leslie Johnson wrote a version of the script previously.

Dungeons and Dragons, the legendary game that came to everyone’s recognition in 1974 instantly got famous and assembled millions of players worldwide. The game influenced many writers, designers and creative artists to center their work around D&D since its arrival. The feature film was actually announced in 2013. However, a rights-dispute between Hasbro and the studio was finally resolved in 2015 and the film remained in-development.

Dungeons & Dragons was initially adapted on the small screen as an animated TV series in 1983. Dave Arneson and Gary Gygax’s legendary role-playing game inspired film-makers to initially turn it into a feature film when the Courtney Solomon directorial, a live-action version of the game was released in 2000. However, the film was neither a commercial nor a critical success but it led to a telefilm sequel with Dungeons and Dragons: Wrath of the Dragon God released in 2005 and a direct-to-DVD followup with Dungeons & Dragons: The Book of Vile Darkness released in 2012.

Despite all the developments, neither Paramount nor Hasbro have commented on the news. Ansel Engort of The Fault in Our Stars fame was previously in contention of playing the lead role in the film but the production company has not confirmed anything yet.
